What we offer

Each school in NSW offers something slightly different depending on the community. Here's what we offer for you.

Canteen

All canteens in NSW public schools must meet certain requirements. These include providing more healthy food and drink options – to make the healthy choice an easy choice for students. Visit Healthy school canteens to learn more.

Rooty Hill Public School offers a variety of healthy food options. Our gold accredited school canteen is open every day from 8:25am. A breakfast menu is offered until 8:45am with children able to choose from a number of choices such milo, juice and water.

Lunch and recess orders need to be placed at this time, using the lunch bags that are provided. All Kindergarten to Year 2 students need to order their recess . Students in Years 3-6 may buy directly from the canteen during recess time.  Available during recess time for Kindergarten to Year 2 students in the playground is our snack attack trolley. The trolley has a variety of healthy snacks for the children to purchase in addition to their recess.

Our meal deals are always popular with the students and offer them the chance to experience different foods. These are available for pre-order only on special events such as swimming carnivals, athletics carnivals and excursions. Keep an eye out for meal deal order forms that are sent home with permission notes.

Download the 2020 canteen menu for more information.

We also offer alternatives for students with special food requirements.

Keep an eye out for them in our newsletter!

Uniforms

When students wear a school uniform, they feel included in our school community.

Students, teachers, parents and carers, as well as members of our local community helped develop our school uniform to make sure it:

  • meets the requirements of occupational health and safety, anti-discrimination and equal opportunity legislation

  • includes items that are affordable, comfortable and made from easy-care and easy-wear fabrics

  • is appropriate for the full range of school activities

  • is suitable for all body shapes.

Uniform shop

Located in our school hall, the uniform shop is open during the school term on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30-9:30am. There are both new and used items available for purchase.

All required uniform items including hats and library bags are available during this time. These items are also on display in the front office. Alternatively if this is not a convenient time, a uniform list and order form (PDF 208KB) can be downloaded and completed then returned to the office along with the cash payment. The garments can then be sent home with your child once received.

Hiring our facilities

You may apply to use our school’s facilities for appropriate purposes provided your hiring of the facility doesn't interfere with our teaching and learning programs.

We assess each application on a case-by-case basis. Find out more at Using school facilities.

If you’re interested in hiring our facilities, contact us for details.

Excursions

Excursions are a great way to enhance the learning process for your child. Excursions are organised to reflect what has been taught in the classroom and to allow your child to put newly developed skills into practice.

Details will be provided to parents of which students are to attend a particular excursion. School uniform (including hat) is to be worn on excursions unless otherwise advised.

K-2 students are involved in one day excursions, while Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 are offered the opportunity to go on overnight excursions. These are an exciting time for our boys and girls. Teachers who attend make this time an enriching and valuable experience which the students will always remember.

Visiting artists

At times throughout the year a variety of performances by professional visiting artists are organised. These groups allow for extension or greater depth of study of work being undertaken. Up and coming performances will be put in the newsletter as well as on our website calendar.
